This is a genuine Nambu ironware kettle and teapot, made in Iwate prefecture. It was found new with its original tag. Such teapots are often decorated with abstract motifs like dots or lines, but this one is decorated with a rare pattern of pine branches. The knob is made in a shape of a little pine cone. Despite its seemingly small size, the pot can contain 550 ml of water.
Nambu tekki (南部鉄器), or Nambu ironware, is a unique craft originating from the Nambu feodal domain in Iwate prefecture in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868). Discover more about this unique craft here.
