Tsumugi kimono fabric - silk roll
This fabric roll, tanmono in Japanese, is made up of 12 m, or the amount needed for a tailor-made kimono.
Details & origin
This fabric roll is a 100% material called tsumugi, a kind of silk textile manufactured with short-staple silk fibres, as opposed to most silk fabrics made using longer, filament silk. Because of this process, the material has an uneven thickness which gives this specific texture to the surface.
The motif all over the fabric represents typical Japanese elements such as asa no ha , chrysanthemums and maple leaves. The motif was created with a resist-dyed technique (kasuri) as shown by the blur lines of the designs.
Composition
100% silk
Dimensions
35 cm x 12 m
Condition
Good overall condition. The fabric has no holes or wears because it hasn’t been used. Though I haven’t noticed any, it may have some small stains due to the years spent in a closet.
Made in Japan. Sourced in Miyazaki prefecture.
