Black coast
MOTIF
As an island nation, Japan is surrounded by beautiful coastal landscapes and it is hard to imagine which one of them is represented on this obi. It is also impossible to guess which season is being shown. This is the reason why such patterns can be appreciated all over Japan, and all year-round!
As is often the case, the artist leaves the place and time open to interpretation.
My personal take? With the waves of the sea being so agitated, I imagine a coast of southern Japan at the end of summer during the typhoon season. What is yours?
