MOTIF

This scene can be often be found in the Japanese countryside: a house behind its bamboo gate. In the garden, a hut with a straw roof and a stream around which grow irises, pines, maple tree, plum tree, and chrysanthemum. In reality, irises and plum flowers would never be in bloom at the same time, but often on kimono motifs, we can find the four seasons meeting in the same imaginary landscape. This allows the garment to be worn and appreciated year-round, regardless of the season.

The graphics of this print, and particularly the strong contrast and the waves of the water, are reminiscent of traditional Okinawan fabrics: bingata.

TEXTILE

This obi seems to have had a previous life already! When looking at it closely, you can observe another pattern underneath, which appears in the texture. In fact, we can guess the shape of chrysanthemum and flying cranes here and there. The previous design, a classic jacquard obi, was completely re-dyed in black before overlaying it with the new design, using the silk screen printing technique.

CUSTOM ORDER

When ordering a bumbag, you can decide if you would like the little house motif to appear on the nag or not. For a larger bag, it will automatically appear.
