Navy and gold scene (sold out)

Motif

When I found this obi, I was captivated by the exquisite contrast formed by the golden lines against the deep navy background. But the intricate motif woven into it left me slightly puzzled. Untlil today, it remains kind of mysterious as I am not sure I can date ot or fully explain it which, I believe, makes me appreciate its beauty even more).

The outfits of the characters seem to date back to no later than the Nara period, a time when the Chinese artistic influence significantly impacted Japanese fashion. Alternatively, this scene might unfold in China rather than Japan.A group of men is working on an object that seems to be a hanging scroll. Another man is reading from a book as a woman passes by with a fan in her hand. Everything is happening outdoor, surrounded by bamboo trees.

Composition

This jacquard obi is woven of silk threads and lamé.
