Kinkakuji in Spring
「SOLD OUT」
Motif and details
You probably recognized Kyoto’s famous Gold Pavillion. I selected this obi because it is a typical example of how a tatewaku composition, when the landscape is intentionally elongated and arranged vertically.
The landscape unfolds from top to bottom, giving a scroll-like effect, almost like a kakejiku. It’s meant to tell a visual story and the viewer’s eye can easily travel : from distant misty mountains at the top, with cherry trees blooming in the distance, down to the temple and it beautiful reflection in the water and finally the pink blossoms at the bottom. I love how peaceful this scene is represented. I don’t think I ever saw Kinkakuji peaceful in Spring but I can imagine it would be quite relaxing to contemplate.

CUSTOM ORDER
When ordering a bag, keep in mind that it might not be possible to feature the entire motif on the same bag. Please indicate your favourite part or colour so I can frame it onto your bag when I create it. I will double check it with you before I start making it. For a larger bag, such as a weekender, the entire motif can be displayed.
This obi doesn’t contain any metallic thread (unlike most obi in my collection), its shimmer is only due to the luster of the silk threads.
