Maru mado

Motif

Simple and delicate, this obi represents various flowers into circles, framed with a traditional asa no ha motif. Asa no ha is a very popular motif that represents hemp leaves in a geometrical way.

The elements represented on this obi are (from top right to bottom left): wisterias (fuji in Japanese), an imperial cart under the cherry blossoms, amix of summer flowers composed of sasaki grass, bell flowers and clover, a wooden fan among small chrysanthemums flowers, and the last one, plum blossoms.

Rather than representing one season, this obi displays a combination of various seasons which allows to wear it all year long. Each element is arranged in a round frame, reminding us of the round windows we can observe in some traditional building, from which you can usually see a specific tree or plant.

TEXTILE

The fabric is made of silk woven with washi paper, coated with metal and mother of pearl (according the traditional technique of Hikinuki)

The background of each circle is made of a darker colour but it lighten up form a different angle, due to the presence of mother-of-pearl.

Framing

When ordering a Phone bag or a Bumbag, you can choose the details and colours of the motif you would like to feature on your bag (an example of phone bag is visible below). A bigger design like the Computer bag or the Weekender will allow the entire motif to show.
